AKA has responded to social media chatter after a cringey interview between the rapper and 947 radio host Thando Thabethe went viral, saying: “She’s just doing her job.”
During an interview to discuss his joint album with Costa Titch, You’re Welcome, Thando asked AKA to address “the elephant in the room,” referring to the death of his fiancée Anele “Nellie” Tembe.
Anele fell to her death from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Loop street in Cape Town on 11 April. She was 22.
When further pushed to comment on the events that occurred following her death, a visibly agitated AKA replied: “You want to call it an incident? This is my life, bro.”
“It’s nobody’s business but my own,” he went on to say when asked: “Is this something that you’re never going to answer?”

The interview quickly reached the top of Twitter trends, with social media divided on whether AKA was unreasonable or Thando’s line of questioning was tasteless.
Responding to the social media “whoo ha,” AKA said: “For the record I just wanna say that @thando_thabethe has always been in my corner from the start, even through everything that has happened this year.
“It’s unfortunate that I felt triggered by the way she asked her questions and I could have handled it better, after all she’s just doing her job and all that.”
The rapper also posted a photo of him and Thando in a friendly embrace and went on to say: “Shit happens… I’m sorry.”
